to -- gilroy, anyone trying to get ahold of emergency services will not get through. the interruption affects the city of gilroy are, the phone company is working on the problem. estimated time to fix is not known at this time. if you have an emergency, call 911 from a cell phone or use your cell phone to call the gilroy police, (408)842-0191. in the meantime, gilroy police, fire and st. louis hospital have personnel on standby. >>> a key connecting ramp on the peninsula remains closed at this hour. a big rig overturned on the ramp between westbound highway 92 and southbound 101 in san mateo county. the latest estimate for reopening is 12:30 so about 20 minutes from now. >>> a 7-year-old girl died in an overnight fire in san jose. it happened around 11:30 last night on north 5th street in the city's japan town area. the fire was at a converted living location, a small unit in the back of a home. the victim has been identified as mariya angel gomez. her 4-year-old sister was also injured in that fire. >> we're in the process of trying to get her out.

, another is in critical condition after a double shooting in gilroy. neighbors rush to help the victim seconds after the shooting last night. nbc bay area is live in gilroy where he spoke to those neighbors. >> reporter: we're learning tonight one of the men is a father of twin boys, one of the men who was shot yesterday or last night. and the girl who police say they are following up on a number of leads as they look for those responsible for this shooting. >> it sounded, like, about more than five gunshots. >> the sound of gunfire caused irma to run out of her home on chestnut street in gilroy. three doors down, she saw a crowd gathering on the front lawn and two of them on the ground. one of them was her friend, stevie. >> so i went down on my knees and i got both of his hands and i said stevie, hang in there, please hang in there. look at my eyes and don't look away. >> within minutes, the police and paramedics arrived. while irma held stevie, he told her about these guy who is followed her from a nearby market. >> he responded to me and told me he just came back from the market. h

months. gilroy, 96. san ramon, 94. sunnyvale, 93. we do have these winds turning slightly out of the north in the north bay and east bay. that's a very dry wind base. humidity at 15 to 30%. it's going to get gustier over the next 48 hours and because of that, a red flag warning has been issued for the northeast and also the south bay hills and it's primarily impacting people above 1,000 feet. that is where the fire danger will remain the highest. no significant rainfall since april the 4th. we haven't had any major fire seasons in the last four to five years considering fires that have started. it's going to be of upmost importance to watch those conditions very closely if you live in the hills. more coming up in the forecast where winds could top 50 miles per hour tomorrow in just a few minutes. >> thank you, jeff. a lot of red on that map behind you. >>> the killer of an 8-year-old girl is still on the loose tonight while investigators analyze fingerprints and other dna evidence at a home which is now a crime scene. authorities went door to door in the town of valley springs

two of three suspects involved in a gilroy homicide. the third considered armed and dangerous, still on the run. 21-year-old jose morales cortez along with an unnamed mail juvenile are currently in jail. officers still looking for 21-year-old juan guerra of gilroy. they are suspected of shooting and killing one man and injuring another last wednesday near downtown. neighbors say the men were walking from a nearby market when they were attacked. there is no word yet on a motive. >>> san francisco's police chief will soon talk to neighbors in the mission district about a recent officer-involved shooting. it happened early sunday morning outside a bar near valencia and 17th street. police opened fire when they saw the suspect pointing a gun at a group of pele

in gilroy. friends of 15-year-old audrey pott remember her as a girl with a wonderful personality. the family's attorney says she want to prevent the same thing from happening to another girl. >> the message is through her story we want to make society safer and better so these things don't happen. >> reporter: the attorney said that audrey was a at a house party, and had been drinking when a group of boys sexuallily assaulted her. >> based on what we know, audrey was unconscious, there were multiple boys in the room with her. she did unimaginable things to her while she was unconscious. making it much worse is the fact that afterwards, apparently a photo or multiple photographs were taken of the assault as it was taking place. >> reporter: he says those photos were posted on line and were seen by several students at the high school. in the days that followed, audrey wrote on her facebook page "the whole school knows, my life is ruined now" eight days after the assault, audrey pott took her own life. the family's attorney says that two of the students are at the high school, a thi

to near 90 in the south bay with 90 if los gatos and deeper in the santa clara valley, 90 in gilroy and 87 in san jose. we will have low to upper 80's to palo alto and lotion altos and millbrae at 79, and headed to the coast, it will be throw mid 60's and around deal city, 72, and 78 downtown and 80 in south san francisco and 80 in sausalito and mid-to-upper 88 through the north bay valley. we will have upper 70's hercules, richmond, berkeley, and the mid-80's for the rest of the we east bay sure. you head into the east bay valley driving around this weekend, going to volleyball matches and basketball games and track meets, notice how dry it is already if this area, that bodes well for getting up to near 90. at at&t park, one of the milder nights we have had and one without a breeze, 68 at first pitch down to 60. tonight the temperatures are in the 50's to near 60 in places like richmond and going from 51 in morgan hill. in the seven-day outlook, we drop about three to five degrees on tuesday, again on wednesday, and look at the big drop on thursday into friday, when it could be 15 to 20 d

here near the pge substation early yesterday morning. that led to a phone outage in gilroy and parts of south santa clara county. a land line and cell phones. it took down the 911 system in gilroy for a period of time. sheriff's investigators believe the same vandals used a high powered rifle to shoot at the pge transmission station. five transformers were damaged spilling oil. at&t had workers in the field making repairs today. they sathey were completed mid-morning and that service for everyone should be restored. pge also gave us an update on its damage and repairs. >> right now the work is progressing well. the cleanup will take a number of weeks likely up for five weeks -- to five weeks. but right now work is progressing well and we'll have crews working around the clock till we get it completed. >> reporter: pge says at no point did anyone lose power. they are no longer asking people to conserve energy as they were yesterday. the sheriff's office is investigating and put put -- and i put multiple calls into them to get an update on this investigation but nobody has returned our

in gilroy and other parts of the county. it now appears that the two attacks may be linked and that has sheriff deputies asking some very troubling questions. arturo santiago spoke with the santa clara county sheriff and he joins us live in south san jose. what did you learn? >> reporter: well, we did speak with santa clara county sheriff lori smith less than two hours ago. her investigators now believe that these two acts of vandalism are related. here's how it played out. just after 1:00 this morning, the 911 system in gilroy and others in south santa clara county communities stopped working. a short time later gilroy's residential phone systems stopped working. at&t found the problem at around 7:00 a.m. several manhole covers had been broken into and critical fiber optic wires had been cut, but they couldn't do anything to fix it. that's because just after 3:00 a.m., pg&e reported someone had broken through a fence and vandalized a utility substation in the same area. specifically someone used a high-powered rifle to shoot several holes in a pg&e transformer, starting a massive oil l

calls cannot get through in gilroy if you are using a land line. now, we've made several calls to gilroy law enforcement agencies. we've not been able to get through. we're gonna get you an update on this developing situation as soon as we get more information. >>> we're also following developing news near san jose. that's where a transformer at a pg&e substation has been leaking oil all morning. now, since our last report from ktvu's tara moriarty she's back now and she says vandals may have caused this leak. tara? >> reporter: yeah. we just got off the phone and they say vandals broke into the substakes at 1:30 -- sub station at 1:30 in the morning. gunshots were fired. it was the bullets that hit the transformer and punctured the leak. you can see the transformer there. that's the area we're talking about. the danger here, a leak poses a fire hazard in the transformer. according to officials, the opening could affect the temperature of that oil and flammable could produce. the chances of that happening, they say, are minimal. we are talking about oil that needs to get over 600 degrees
